A Night in Po Ling

Po Ling is the largest county in the Teochew Prefecture and is home to a population of over 2 million teochews, and another 1 million outside of
China. Every year, thousands of Teochews make their way back to their ancestral homes in Po Ling.

In the 1950s, Po Ling started developing their two main sources of income – the clothing and medicinal herb industry. Po Ling is known for
producing the best quality medicinal herbs, which even gave rise to the term “不到普宁药不齐”.

Other specialties from this region include the Po Ling Tau Kwa and Po Ling Soy Sauce. With these special food and cultural influences, native Teochews in Po Ling who migrated out of China in the 1980s, bring along these gifts to the many countries such as Penang, Singapore and Thailand, and bring about an
influence of the Teochew culture to Asia.

For this event, we will bring our guests down the memory lane of Po Ling from the 1950s to 1980s, so that they can experience the transition change of  Teochew influence.
